KEVIN MACKAMUL
Regenesis Power, Director of Engineering

Mr. Mackamul has over 26 years of photovoltaic and related system design experience. He currently heads the engineering group at Regenesis Power and is responsible for the design and costing activities. He is also responsible for coordinating any necessary engineering consulting required to facilitate system requirements.

Prior to joining Regenesis Power Mr. Mackamul served as Director of Engineering at Shell Solar / Siemens Solar. As Director, Mr Mackamul lead design and construction efforts to build modular fixed tilt and single-axis tracking systems for large scale PV systems. His insights led to a patent application utilizing novel yet practical design element developed over 12 years field experience Mr. Mackamul’s experience at his former employer, Utility Power Group, entailed design, engineering, scheduling, project management and construction management of numerous grid connected projects. The vast majority of these projects and systems were installed for utility customers. Mr. Mackamul has experience in interfacing with a wide variety of grid connected customers including, utilities, municipalities, Government, and military. Mr. Mackamul was a principal of Utility Power Group, serving as Vice President in R & D and Construction Management and Engineering.

In 1989 Mr Mackamul developed an automated “in-line” amorphous silicon deposition system that made “dual-junction” modules in a state of the art system that used a “glass–in” “module-out” design without breaking vacuum. The output of the system was installed at PVUSA in a 15 kW array that still functions today and was the most reliable installation of the emerging technology systems at the site. Mr. Mackamul also served as Project Manager for a design and build contract from the Department of the Navy to provide a 60 kW/2 MW-hr PV/Battery Energy Storage facility. This facility located at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in 29 Palms, California won an award from the Dept. of the Navy for “Exemplary Performance” on the contract which began operation in December 1997.

Mr. Mackamul served as Project Manager for UPG’s design and build contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to provide a 400 kW/6 MW-hr PV/Battery Energy Storage facility. This facility is the largest of its kind in the world and began preliminary operation in April 1997. Mr. Mackamul was also responsible for the development of single axis solar tracking hardware and software, which are in operation at multiple project sites throughout the Southwest U.S.

Prior to joining UPG in 1985, Mr. Mackamul served as Research Scientist, Thin Film Silicon for ARCO Solar, Inc., Chatsworth, CA and led a team of engineers in the design and construction of a multi-electrode PECVD deposition system capable of depositing electronic quality thin film materials onto substrates over eight square feet in area. Mr. Mackamul earned his BS degree in Physics from the University of Redlands, CA in 1981. Mr. Mackamul holds two US Patents and has submitted several recent applications relating to single axis tracking.
